Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) Laboratory

The DRI Luminescence Research Laboratory is home to the only dedicated Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) dating facility in North America. Our facility includes:

        • Bruker EMXmicro ESR spectrometer equipped with a 6” double yoke magnet and a high sensitivity X-band resonator for CW-ESR measurements. Measurements can be conducted at either room temperature (~300 K) or liquid nitrogen temperature (~77 K).
        • Freiberg benchtop x-ray irradiator compatible with quartz tubes used for ESR measurements.
        • Hönle UVACUBE benchtop solar simulator equipped with a SOL 500 light
        • Precision scale for mass normalization
        • Flex shaft drills, diamond saws and other miscellaneous equipment for processing fossil tooth enamel for ESR dating
